Actualización en Métodos Diagnósticos para el Estudio del Ojo Seco

Abstract

Objetivo: Realizar una actualización de la evidencia acerca de los métodos diagnósticos en la enfermedad de ojo seco. Antecedentes: La enfermedad de ojo seco es un padecimiento prevalente, para el cual existen múltiples métodos diagnósticos para su abordaje. A pesar de la publicación del Taller de Ojo Seco Internacional II en 2017 y más recientemente el de la Sociedad Asiática de Ojo Seco, el diagnóstico continúa siendo muy variable y subjetivo entre los profesionales, por lo que es importante tratar de estandarizar los métodos, así como utilizar aquellos que son más objetivos. Revisión de Resultados: Reconociendo que el ojo seco es una enfermedad eminentemente sintomática, el uso de cuestionarios validados es de suma importancia, por lo que en esta revisión se describen los cuestionarios recientemente validados para nuestro medio. Además, teniendo en cuenta que el orden de los estudios puede modificar sus resultados, se discute el orden y la forma correcta para realizar los estudios sugeridos por los consensos antes mencionados. Finalmente, se mencionan algunos de los estudios actualmente en investigación que permiten reconocer la fisiopatología de la enfermedad, así como la forma de evaluar el impacto del ojo seco en la visión. Conclusión: Además del abordaje clásico, nuevas técnicas diagnósticas nos permiten mejorar nuestro entendimiento sobre el ojo seco. Los nuevos aspectos mencionados son útiles en la práctica diaria, y para elegir variables y pruebas diagnósticas a ser usadas en estudios de investigación.
